2023 Yuletide Letter
Hello, dear author! I'm Anabel. I'm so psyched that we share one of these fandoms, and I'm so excited to see what you create! :)

What I most love to read about in fic is people who are happy, or in the process of becoming happy. This could mean having adventures, or falling in love, or being fulfilled in their career, or snuggling in bed with their partner, or fighting sky-pirates from outer space. Or perhaps all of these things in the same fanwork! This doesn’t necessarily mean unrelieved fluff – I’m a big fan of plot, smut, and adventures as well – but a focus on a character’s melancholy inner doubts (for instance), or on infidelity and betrayal and pain, wouldn’t appeal to me. I am absolutely addicted to happy endings. (Or "happy for now," in canons where outright happy endings are implausible!)
DNWs: eye injury, vomiting, infidelity (if both marriage partners are ok with one/both of them having another relationship, to me that doesn't hit this DNW), miscarriages, child or animal harm, noncon or dubcon, death of a requested character, underage (under 16), people being cornered and yelled at (they can be yelled at as long as they would be able to escape if they want/needed to), women being victimized by men without being able to fight back, women being denied agency, setting-divergence AUs (aka modern AUs, different-profession AUs, a/b/o, etc.), transphobia or anti-trans characters (even if condemned in narrative). [I welcome any of my requested characters being trans, but for personal reasons please don't have any conflict in the fic have to do with their transness.]

Fandom 1:Ivanhoe (1952)
My Requested Characters: Wilfred of Ivanhoe, Richard I of England
What Do I Ship? Ivanhoe/Richard I (and past Richard/Philip)
This movie was a childhood favorite of mine. I love the twist on the historical legend, with Ivanhoe being the one to take Blondel’s role and discover Richard’s prison. Ivanhoe’s drive throughout the movie to raise Richard’s ransom, free him from his captors, and bring him back to England to resume his throne, is ripe for reevaluation as something a little bit more than a loyal knight’s dedication.
Note: Richard was a very good military commander. He could also make brutal choices (the ruthlessness of his punitive campaigns against rebel barons, the massacre at Ayyadieh, most likely the assassination of Conrad of Montferrat). I'm not asking for this part of Richard’s life to be whitewashed, but please don’t portray on-screen executions, massacres, or even gory battles in general.

Fandom 2: Adventures of Robin Hood (1938)
My Requested Characters: Sir Robin of Locksley, Richard I of England
What Do I Ship? Robin/Richard and Robin/Marian
This was one of my great-grandfather's favorite movies, and he’s the one that first showed it to me. Everyone in it is beautiful, and Bess in particular is hilarious, and I love the level of swashbuckling. As you might have guessed from my previous fandom, I also ship “Richard finding love,” and I think Robin & Richard could suit well! Robin gives me major bisexual energy, and I ship both him and Richard and him and Marian.
Ideas (in addition to my general & smut likes at the beginning of this letter):
Robin fills Richard in on everything Richard has missed in his kingdom while he was away on Crusade (and isn’t too impressed by Richard staying away so long). Richard finds Robin’s bluntness strangely attractive. Richard taps Robin and Marian to help him reestablish his presence in England. Over time, however, he finds that he feels quite oddly when this handsome ex-outlaw is around... Marian is the one who sees the mutual attraction first, and doesn’t mind sharing Robin. Prince John tries to take revenge on Robin & Marian, and is surprised by the level of fury & consequences this unleashes from his heretofore forgiving brother. An AU in which Richard doesn’t die early, and Robin and Marian (and their family) rise very high by his side. How might history have gone differently? Anything from my general likes!

What Do I Ship? Hastings/Poirot
Hastings and Poirot are one of my earliest ships – I’ve shipped them ever since I was a teenager and started devouring all the Agatha Christie books I could get my hands on. I would love to read a canon-style story that took things to the next level and gave the two of them their happy ending! I love both the Suchet adaptation I’m requesting and the original books.
Ideas (in addition to my general & smut likes at the beginning of this letter):
How do they fall in love? How does the POV character realize that he’s falling in love with the other? How do they take the next step and bravely acknowledge their feelings? I absolutely love first time fics that show both the realization and declaration of feelings.
I am totally happy with shortfic and by fics that start in medias res - I am not expecting a huge long casefic by any means. From casefic to banter to fluff to drama to curtainfic to porn, I will love it all! And if you have any fluffy/happy plotbunnies for these two that highlight intimacy and affection, I will love those too!! :)

Fandom 5: Sense and Sensibility (1995)
My Requested Characters: Margaret Dashwood
What Do I Ship? Margaret/OFC
S&S may just be my favorite movie of all time. I just adore it. Elinor Dashwood is one of my favorite characters in all of fiction, and I ship her with both Edward and Colonel Brandon.
This year, though, what I’m really hungering to read about is Margaret! She is so delightful in the movie in her expanded role, and I want to know where you think life might take her! What adventures is she having, ten years on?
Canon-divergence AUs with the movie’s endings are fine – Marianne/Willoughby (in a AU where he defied his aunt and proposed to Marianne the day she stayed home from church) and/or Elinor/Brandon are both ships that work for me. I’m happy with the canon pairings as well, though. As long as everyone’s happy, including Margaret, I’m good. :)

What Do I Ship? Harriet/Peter
THESE TWO. Harriet is one of the great literary loves of my life. She’s very special to me, and I’ve read my copy of Gaudy Night until it has literally fallen apart. So basically the only thing you have to do here is to write a story that shows her Harriet-ness off and has her happy in love, and you will have a blissfully content recipient. :) While I’ve requested book-canon, I do adore Harriet Walter’s Harriet, so if you want to take inspiration from her as well I would be more than happy with that.
This year, what I hunger for most is “after the happy ending” fic full of intimacy and affection. I would absolutely ADORE porn, but if that’s not in your wheelhouse I would also love milder-rated stories.

SMUT LIKES:
- Most important: that everyone is having a helluva good time and fully consenting.
- Couples who are friends as well as lovers. Friendly banter, cuddling, just the general sense that both really like each other as well as wanting to tear each other’s clothes off.
- People who can't stay quiet during sex; dirty talk, moaning, little cut-off noises, reverent invocation of the lover’s name, distracted chattering, all of it!
- Women taking the lead in bed, anywhere on the spectrum between just In Charge to all the way femdom.
- Morning cuddles and/or sex.
- Silly/fun sex roleplaying.
- One partner reading to the other one in bed, which eventually gets abandoned in favor of sex.
- Eager cunnilingus – a giver who is not only super into it for their partner’s sake, but super turned on by the experience of giving it.
- Multiple orgasms, including but not limited to the point of exhaustion. Also orgasm imbalance – aka one partner gets a lot, the other only gets the one – as long as all parties enjoy this dynamic. And orgasm delay – being turned-on all day, and just having to wait, and probably interact with other people and pretend to be normal, and then eventually finally get back to the bedroom…
- Both penetrative and not-penetrative sex! Sex for me definitely doesn’t have to include penetration. I also enjoy that too, but a less-conventional progression in bed is always something I’ll like.
- One partner deliberately turning on the other partner in public, especially if there's a reason they can't immediately get alone together and down to business. The teasing and heightened anticipation = A+.
- Strong people and athletic prowess, and that strength being a big turn-on in bed.
- Wall sex.
- Bathing together, and/or bathing one’s lover.
- Undressing one’s lover after a ball or fancy event; could also lead to urgent, half-clothed sex, which I also greatly enjoy.
- Face-sitting.
- Bodyswap for a day.
- Hurt/comfort, with the “hurt” only minor and the focus on the comfort. “Sprained ankle” side of the spectrum, definitely not “brutal beating” side.
- Happiness and laughter – in general, and also during sex.
- Sex that doesn’t go as planned/sexual mishaps (preferably ones that don’t have any exceptional or lasting effects, and with everything eventually ending happily)
- Tipsy sex in an established relationship
- Reunion sex
- Characters being walked in on during sex (treated comically, no angst/violence/etc.)
- “Nowadays-Vanilla sex things” being treated as transgressive and the transgression kinked on; I’m not actually into many seriously transgressive things, but I love the dynamic of pushing taboos, if that makes sense. In the historical eras and cultures of some canons, even things like cunnilingus or non-missionary positions might be “transgressive” according to their contemporary social norms (and/or according to an inexperienced character). I love the dynamic of one or both of the characters feeling Super Daring at pushing the boundaries/disobeying a taboo, and (whatever the taboo is) being an amazing experience for both.
- “Missing porn scenes”. Any missing scenes from a canon that were actually porn interludes.

- Canon-divergence AU in which Richard does conquer Jerusalem and decides to stay in Outremer as the elected king of Jerusalem, with Wilfred at his side.
- Canon-divergence AU in which gay people are accepted, and Wilfred announces to his father that he accepts his father’s edict that he is not to marry Rowena, and will become King Consort instead.
- Post-movie, Wilfred and Rowena have been married for a couple of years. When they both start realizing they have feelings for their friends – Richard and Rebecca, respectively – they help each other both find happy endings.
- I also ship a younger Richard with Philip of France, so what about Richard comparing his current partner Wilfred with his ex Philip, and how the two relationships are different?
- Eleanor of Aquitaine is happy that her favorite son has finally found a worthy man to be his partner. (Somehow I think she did not approve of Philip.) Or Philip is not happy when he finds out about Richard’s new love.

- Is Poirot the oblivious one for once, and Hastings realizes first? (Or is Miss Lemon and/or Inspector Japp ahead of them both?)
- What is the first time Miss Lemon (and/or Inspector Japp) realizes that Poirot and Hastings are in love? What are some ways they each show affection for each other?
- How does their relationship mature and deepen over the years?
- How does one of them care for the other when they’re sick/injured?

- Jane gives Charles a pop quiz on what he’s learned about the personalities/likes/hobbies/etc. of all her family - while providing distraction so it’s a proper test.
- Jane and Charles take Mary and Kitty under their wing and help them grow into happy young women. Any ship for Mary and Kitty would be fine – I do have a soft spot for femslash pairings for either/both of them, and if you do go that way, please make Jane & Charles be accepting. But also, no ship is necessary if Mary and Kitty are happy!
- Jane and Charles play a game of cards (or battledore and shuttlecock) for Other Stakes.
- Jane and Charles travel and have a proper honeymoon while enjoying the world together.
- One of her sisters finds it very amusing how besotted Jane and Charles are with each other, and how often they are nowhere to be found at first when you show up at their house unannounced. Banter that leads to the bedroom (or to the nearest available surface).
- Jane and Charles being adventurous in the bedroom, especially Jane taking the lead.
- Charles discovering he enjoys crossdressing in the bedroom, and Jane discovering she enjoys that very much.
- One of them becoming an artist, and drawing/painting the other (either completely innocently, suggestively, or nude.
- Jane and Charles solve a minor domestic mystery together.
- Jane and Charles as parents – what will they be like?

(If any of Margaret’s relatives found out about her relationship, please have them be accepting. Period realism is overrated in this respect.
- Does Margaret meet young women from other Jane Austen novels, as either friends or a romantic partner? I’ve been enjoying Claudia Gray’s mystery series and the way she creates an “Austenverse,” and would love something like that for Margaret to explore.
